WHAT IS THE BOTHNIA RAILWAY MUSEUM? One of the largest railway museums i Sweden, situated in the former
industrial community of Karlsvik, 6 km outside the city of Luleå. The
museum is owned and run by the preservation society Malmbanans Vänner.
WHAT IS MALMBANANS VÄNNER? Literally, The Friends of the Ore Line, Malmbanans Vänner is a railway
preservation society founded in 1982 with the goal of running heritage trains
and preserving vehicles and other objects relating to Malmbanan, a line that
has been many times at the forefront of Swedish railway operation.
. WHY MALMBANAN? Malmbanan, literally The Ore Line, is special. It runs through two countries
and initially was built and run by an English company. Difficult terrain, snow
problems and an early electification are some of the interesting points.
